Day four

Today the trench team did a magnificent job and completed the 60 meter trench to the specified depth in order to lay the electrical cables. Their next task was to dig a conduit for the rain water.

The aim was to build to above window height and at 4 pm the outside walls reached this height. The inside walls did not quite reached the aimed height yet but the boys worked hard until sunset.

It is easy to forget the effort that goes into cement mixing. A word of thanks, at this stage, to the boys that has been part of the cement mixing team, a job that is probably the least popular of all the tasks to choose from.

We decided that the boys should have a number of “orphan breaks” per day (which they are all looking forward to) in order to give them the opportunity to bond with the children. A few years ago, we drilled water and renovated the Good Hope orphanage in Tanzania. Some of the boys decided to start a charity to sponsor five children in the orphanage to go through secondary school. This orphanage, however, recommends that if a boy would like to stay in touch, they can sponsor a specific child. Some of the boys have already indicated their interest in this option.
