Day six

There was a very slow start to the day today. We run out of bricks quite early which prevented the boys from building the last two rows of the house. One could sense their disappointment.

There was, however, plenty of work to be done. The drain had to be built, the trenches for the sewerage had to be dug and the electrical cables lay. After a treat of Ketucky (yes, in the middle of a rural town near the build we came upon this rare gem) the boys seemed to be more motivated than in the morning.

Andrew and Ali were asked to help the local builder with the gable. The sifting team under the supervision of Mr White, comprised of Oscar, Charlie, Will, Oliver and Fabian. Then Fabian and Guy proceeded with bricklaying whilst Max, Noi, Daniel and Logan provided the mortar.

Mr van Noordwyk led Harry, Angus, George, Brian, Gregory and Louis who were digging trenches and Kushal was delivering water. Alexis collected bricks for everybody and filled up the gaps between the bricks.

Mr Marchant’s team, comprising of Viraj, Harry T, Greg and Alex, had the monotonous task of drilling 5 holes in 19 trusses to fix the nuts and bolts as reinforcement.

Mr Smith, as project manager and inventor of make shift equipment to make everybody’s work easier, was very satisfied with the progress of the build and the general attitude of the boys after six days of hard labour.

By 3 pm the bricks arrived and the boys all had to unload the truck and then started to build the last two rows of the house. Cookies and cold drinks became a matter of urgency at 4 pm and then the last shift started.
